Jan. 6 defendant from Alabama known as âMAGA Lumberjackâ indicted on rape charge
An Alabama man known as “MAGA Lumberjack” for his role in the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol is facing more charges back home.
Dillon Herrington, 32, of Madison, was indicted by a Limestone County grand jury last month on a charge of first-degree rape, court records showed.
Herrington was dubbed the “MAGA Lumberjack” by the FBI when they were seeking tips on locating the then-unidentified Jan. 6 perpetrator.
The agency said Herrington “threw objects, including lumber” at U.S. Capitol police.
Last month, Herrington pleaded guilty to one federal charge of assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers in connection with his role in Jan. 6, records showed.
A federal judge sentenced the Madison man to three years and one month in federal prison followed by three years of supervised release.
Herrington is set to serve the sentence at the federal prison in Talladega.
An Aniah’s Law hearing is scheduled for Friday to determine whether Herrington should be denied bond on the rape charge.
